Counselors for Social Justice is excited to announce the first webinar in an ongoing series focused on providing important social justice information and support to our membership and the communities we serve.
As such, we are inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting that will facilitate this webinar. You do not need a zoom account to access the zoom meeting or need to download any software, just click on the access link at the time of the meeting.

Title: Supporting Immigrant Families in a Time of Fear and Uncertainty
Description: Recent policy changes and legislation related to immigration have resulted in fear and confusion for citizens and unauthorized immigrants in the United States. The purpose of this webinar is to increase awareness of current political issues and their potential impact on the immigrant population by providing
- an overview of the Executive Order on Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements and “sanctuary” legislation;
- empowerment interventions for clients; and
- social advocacy strategies and resources for clinical and school settings.
Presenter Bio: Dr. Selma de Leon-Yznaga is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley located on the southern border of the United States and Mexico. With over 25 years of experience in clinical and school settings, she is committed to scholarship and advocacy related to immigration and refugee populations. She served as CSJ President in 2013-14 and founded the Texas Counselors for Social Justice in 2007.
